Program Description: DARE Program consists of
educating Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

drugs, alcohol, tobacco and violence within there
lives. The education consists of building
self-esteem and life skills that may
be lacking at home and
or in schools. Officer Harmon also
teaches drug and
alcohol awareness in the
High School, but not part of the DARE program.
This lesson is part of
the health teachers curriculum. The DARE
Program has
been offered for 10 years at the fifth grade
level, however Officer Harmon
has been teaching it for
the last three years from the K-5 level.
Teaching the
health classes is in
it's third year.

to one of the four topics presented by the instructors.
The sixth and final session will consist of

DuCAP a state funded group is offering an after
school program beginning
October 2003. DuCAP is
providing $17,000, School District is providing
$1,000 plus space,
equipment, bus transportation, and teachers. Wood Dale
is providing $10,000 in
funding and police officer liaison. Parents will be
involved, school
principals will be involved field trip will be provided and it will
be offer to 15 student in three different
schools for a total of 45 kids youth
must qualify and will be
referred by teachers. Police department had federal
funding for three years
for a resource center, then had state funding and
city funding until the
last year when funding was cut.
