Program Name: EZ-Plus

Program Description: A course of instruction
is taught by officers in the middle school dealing with
drugs, alcohol, and
violence. All middle school students are also given a
chance to join the
EZ_Plus program. In order to join they must take a pledge to
be drug, alcohol, and violence free. They then
sign the pledge that is
displayed publicly in
the school. The membership in the EZ_Plus program
entitles the student to
participate in dances, trips, and raffles sponsored by
the police department. A
student who violates the pledge has the card
revoked and can no
longer participate in the events unless reinstated into the
organization. Any teacher, parent or police
officer may revoke a student's
membership card.

Program Description: We have three officers
assigned as full time school resource officers.
Two
officers share their
time in the high school. These same
officers cover both
middle schools. One officer covers nine elementary schools

middle school. Their primary duty is to ensure a safe
learning environment.
They also teach classes
in the school on such topics as Choice and
Consequences, DUI, Laws,
and other law enforcement topics. They
also
have office hours in the schools where they can just talk with students.

assistance and the officers are on campus as they can
make it.

Program Name: School Resource Officer

Program Description: The Westerville Division
of Police has formed a cooperative partnership with
the schools to develop
the SRO program at the middle and high school level.
Full time officers are
assigned to both high schools and the three middle
schools as, "School
Resource Officers" with the primary responsibility of
taking ownership of
their respective schools. They handle
all matters
occurring on the school
grounds. They perform the same tasks as
patrol
officers and work to
make the schools safer and more effective. The SRO's
work in conjunction with
the school administrators and they are
looked upon
as members of
staff. SRO's are counselors to youth and
act as role models.
The officers also teach
classes at their schools which include components
of how to deal with
violence.
